IMBA Trail day on Dean Martin

Thanks to everyone that came out to the IMBA Workshop and Trail Day on Dean Martin. 40 folks came out from Victoria to Port McNeill to learn about sustainable trail design and put the theory into practice on a reroute of an eroding section of Dean Martin in Elk Falls Park (aka The Pumphouse).

IMBA Trail Care Crew is coming to Campbell River - NOV 26

Chad and Deanne Lazaruk of the International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) Canada Trail Care Crew will be in Campbell River on November 26, 2011 for a free IMBA Trail Building School with the River City Cycle Club.

Come out to meet the Crew, and network with other trail users in your area! You'll learn the art and science of sustainable trail building, and get hands-on instruction in the field! Register for the Trail Building School here.

Not a mountain biker? The principles of building sustainable trails apply to all users (hikers, trail runners, equestrians, and cycling), and our workshops are open to the public -- all users and land managers are invited.

Campbell River 50K Trail Challenge

Sunny skies welcomed the 96 participants of the 2011 CR 50K Trail Challenge. All challengers finished with a smile and enjoyed the delicious home cooked pizza waiting for them at the finish line. More info and photos to be posted shortly. You can find the 50K Challenge Results here.

Thanks again to all the sponsors and volunteers. Events like this could not exist without your help.

Strathcona Park Ride

25 cyclists turned out for our ride on Sunday while the weather looked threatening from Campbell River we were treated to cloudy/sunny skies and I think only two of us saw any real rain. Every one rode strong with a smile. Our picnic dinner at Lupin falls was spectacular with lots of chocolate deserts a great pasta salad, watermelon and much more. Thank you again to NVI Mining for the cookies, and juice at the 40K mark. Hope to see you all again next year.

John Hart Dam Closure

BC Hydro is preparing to upgrade a small section of the John Hart Dam near the spillway gates that pass water down the Elk Falls Canyon. The resulting work will require a full road closure during the approximate six week construction period from August 24 through October 11. The nearby detour route around the dam will be Iron River Road.

Snowden Trail Advisory

Active logging and road building (blasting) is currently underway adjacent to Lookout Loop and the Old Rail Trail. One Cutblock is near the exit of Lookout Loop, the other in the middle of the Old Rail Trail. Please follow all posted instructions and trail closures. Check back for further updates.

BC Bike Race

The world famous BC Bike Race came to the trails of the Snowden Forest on July 4th. On Day 2 of this 7 day event, 500 riders tested themselves against trails of the Snowden, riding a 48km course that included classics such as Lost Frog, Lower Deliverance and Headbanger Hookup. So far racer reviews of our trails have been extremely positive and we look forward to the possibility of hosting this great event again next year.

RCCC Trail Day and BBQ

The trail day and BBQ were a big success. Thanks to those who volunteered their time to keep Lost Frog in great shape. Without ongoing maintenance our trails would not be as fun to ride as they are.

The Trails of the Snowden Demo Forest have been designated Non-Motorized. Violaters will be prosecuted! and heckled!
